Curriculum for Excellence
Aboyne Academy pupils are exploring the new Scottish education system. We have interview the rector of Aboyne Academy, Mr Jowett and got his opinions on the changes to subject choice and the new exams.
Pupils also gave their views about the new curriculum. They speak about the limitations of only taking six subjects and the benefits of the new exams.
Maria Walker, Director of Education spoke to us about her decisions regarding the changes and what happened leading up to these changes. We have tried to find out as much as we can about our future education.

Scottish Animal Welfare
Animal welfare is an issue of importance to us. We investigated Belwade Farm, a place which supports horses and spoke to people about their opinions on the recent horsemeat scandal which would have begun with animals being treated badly. Photographs courtesy of Belwade Farm.

Scottish Independence
Our report focused on the current Scottish Independence situation. We learned about the history of Scottish Independence.
We interviewed Nanette Milne MSP from the Scottish Conservative Party and Maureen Watt MSP, a member of the Scottish National Party, to hear their opinions on Scottish Independence.
The referendum voting age may be be reduced from the previous age of 18 to the age of 16, giving young adults the option to voice their opinion on a subject which will affect their lives in the future. We interviewed some pupils from our school to hear what they had to say.

Aboyne Academy Sports News
Athletes face many pressures, especially with competitions like the Commonwealth Games coming up. Both Laura Murray and Kathryn Christie are aiming to qualify for the Commonwealth Games and represent Scotland.
These inspirational figures have recently been joined by Catriona McGregor who has led the Champions in School project. Catriona is a pistol shooter. We hear from some pupils who are involved.
School in sport is a big issue with all the focus on healthy living. Mr Arthur provides some insights.

Mountain Rescue report with Mr MacInytre. “This winter has seen many problems in the hills and mountains in the Highlands of Scotland. Due to the heavy snow, there have been many accidents in the hills. Local mountain rescue teams members provide some insight and advice about safety in the mountains.
