Update 21/05/25
Please find below an open invitation to all members of the Aboyne Academy school community to attend our 50th celebration event on Thursday 26th June 2025:
On the 15th May this year it will be 50 years since the formal opening of Aboyne Academy and Deeside Community Centre. Many of you will be aware that the school was in operation prior to this but 1975 was the year of the official opening event!
Following some dialogue with pupils, staff and parent council, we are keen to mark this 50th anniversary in a variety of ways:
We plan to hold a celebration event for the school and community on Thursday 26th June 2025. The 15th of May anniversary falls in the middle of the SQA exams so we feel it would be better to hold this event in June when everyone can participate. An open invite to this event will go out to the community in May. This day will include an opening ceremony, tours of the school and an exhibition about the history of the school by current pupils.
We are planning to run an inclusive physical activity which will last throughout the summer where we support all pupils to be involved in walking a section of our school boundary to celebrate the diversity of our catchment area.
We plan to take a whole school 50th anniversary photograph.
There is a map in the Aboyne library which we will be filling in as people complete walks. The best way to contribute to this is to email details of your walk with any pictures you are willing to be used to the school office. Please include Boundary Walk in the email subject line:

There is also a Strava club where we will put updates, please join if you are interested.

If you follow the links you should be able to download and save these files; select download only if you do not have a dropbox account.
We want everyone to participate safely and enjoy their adventures along our catchment area boundary. Please see Safety on walks (Walkhighlands) for some great advice about walking. You must take responsibility for your own safety. Please be mindful of other land users and follow the Scottish Outdoor Access Code at all times - NatureScot
